An Outdoor Oasis

So I am obsessed with this patio and pool area by interior designer, Tobi Fairley. These bright, summery colors make this residential home feel like an upscale resort. This fabulous deck features a white tufted bar with Onda barstools across from stark white cabinets paired with white countertops and a turquoise subway tile backsplash. The stainless steel barbeque grill is an added feature and one that would make for one great party. The pool deck cabana is accented with bold black and white outdoor curtains, which make the orange and turquoise pop.

This is my absolute favorite part. This amazing covered deck features a covetable black and white striped ceiling. The simple but fun turquoise polyhedron pendants are an attention grabber. One hangs over a large round blue ottoman paired with black and white French style chairs and the other hangs over the dining area. This chic deck features a corner fireplace flanked by built-in benches dressed with funky throw pillows. The plantation shutters on either side of the windows add a little Southern charm to this Arkansas home.

Color Crave: Freesia

I have already jumped on the mustard trend because a) it’s awesome and b) it’s just it’s just so versatile with other colors. Who would have thought that a hot dog condiment would make such a bold statement?

Pantone deemed it a necessity for this year’s Spring Fashion Report. Their version is Freesia, “a blazing yellow that is sure to illuminate wardrobes this season.” But it doesn’t have to stop in your closet. Freesia can illuminate your décor too.

This mustardy shade is so warm and inviting. As I was browsing around, I found this camo-ish rug with bits of turquoise and gray, I knew that it would be the foundation for this fun and rustic color board.

Sofa | Pillows (1) (2) | Pouf | Rug | Chest | Lamp | Mirror

I fell in love with this sofa for obvious reasons, but also because it’s call the “Natalie” sofa. Need I say more? I always try to toss ones of these Moroccan poufs in every way I can because they add a little life and variety and come in a jillion colors. I added some throw pillows and a round driftwood mirror to add texture and I found this fabulous chest of drawers with a little distressing and metal knobs. It’s definitely a statement piece in itself. The paint colors are all Sherwin-Williams. From the top down: Biscay, Butterscotch, and Goldenrod.

My Grandmother’s Tray

I found this adorable little mirrored tray on my last excavation of the downstairs den at my parent’s house. I asked my mom who it belonged to and she told me it was my grandmother’s. All the more reason to love it.

I added some of my favorite perfume bottles and some old makeup palates just for looks.

It definitely adds a little girly touch to my room and the fact that it was my grandmother’s makes it even more special to me.

What do you cherish from your loved ones?

Craft Closet: Pinspiration

I have an enormous closet under my stairs. I refuse to show you a picture of it, because I’m quite embarrassed. It has become the everything closet. Crafts, storage, boxes that I left unpacked from the move, coats, you name it. It’s a horrific use of space. It would be perfect for an episode of Hoarders or Secret Life: I’m a Terrible Organizer.

I was recently surprised with my first sewing machine from my mom for my birthday. I am super excited to start learning to sew so I can stop buying curtains and pillows!

Ignore my daddy’s finger in the corner. Ugh.

Follow me on Instagram!

Anyhow, I need a place to put it. I leave my dog out in my room so on my desk is not an option. Plus, with sewing comes the need of an excessive amount of storage. Just ask my sister, Kim, who gave up her cramped sewing quarters on top of her landing in her home for an openly spacious rental cottage down the street.

So, I’ve come to the conclusion that my little closet under the stairs is going to get a new look. Here are some Pinspiration photos I found:

Stay tuned to see what I come up with. The hamster wheel is turning!

Memorial Day 2014: Remembering The Fallen

This Memorial Day will be a little different for me. As you all know, I traveled to Washington, D.C. a couple of months ago and not only did I earn an even more utmost respect for this nation than I already had, I learned a lot about the men and women who fought to keep it a free and safe place for us to live. Among the things I saw, I also visited the sacred Arlington Cemetery, where I witnessed the Changing of the Guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider which overlooked thousands and thousands of little white stones, most of which were engraved “Unknown”.

This is me, on top of the hill at the Arlington House. I love this view.

Chills went down my spine every time I saw another one. Unknown, Unknown, Unknown. These were men and women who sacrificed their lives and yet we don’t even know their name. It hurts to think of the families that never got to see their loved ones laid to rest. Imagine walking around a cemetery thinking, “One of these is my dad.”

This is President Kennedy’s gravesite, along with the Eternal Flame that burns behind him. President  Kennedy once said, “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”

So on this Memorial Day, whether you are serving BBQ (which is what I’ll be doing) or spending time with your family, stop for a second and remember all of these women and men who fight for our country everyday. And for those who have died for our country, we thank you. We honor you for your selfless sacrifice to keep us safe from harm.

Happy Birthday, Jimmy!

Jimmy is the big 22 today! Happy Birthday to my sweet, loving, and handsome boyfriend! Thanking God for getting to spend another year with him. This one is going to be the best one yet!
